DSO performs on BBC Radio 3

Dundee Symphony Orchestra is delighted to be associated with its umbrella organisation for amateur music, Making Music, and with BBC Radio 3, in being able to repeat on national radio part of one of our most successful recent concerts, Beethoven's Symphony no 1.

Donald Gordon, the President of the Orchestra said "it came as rather a surprise to us that Radio 3 wanted to record our June 2008 concert, with a view to broadcasting some of it. But they turned up in a huge van with what appeared to be a vast amount of recording equipment, and it did come to pass, and we are eagerly looking forward to hearing the result."

"We feel very honoured to be described as one of the best amateur groups in the UK, and I hope that we can live up to the description. I certainly felt that the performance was both energetic and moving, and was a good account of the wonderful music."

The conductor of the Orchestra, Edinburgh-based Robert Dick, added that he has conducted the DSO since March 2005. "During that time, the quality of the playing has continued to improve, and I was very pleased with the performance of the Beethoven. The membership of the Orchestra covers a fairly wide age range, and everyone is equally committed to playing their part in providing high quality amateur music in Dundee, and now for the first time, nationally."
